I wish I would have seen this before my 7 month old German Shepherd became reactive on leash toward people and dogs. I failed on the socialization area 😞 We’re still trying to work with her.

I'm super stoked to see you raise this pup. I have a 16 month, 180 pound male who still has some growing to do. My greatest delight has been to shatter the stereotyping that Boerboels have received because of poorly trained owners. He's great with children, other dogs and other animals. As far as his protective drive goes; if I'm okay with people then he's OK with them. Now in the more challenging "teenage" phase, it's like trying to get a headstrong 4 year old to follow instructions. (He does, but sometimes in his own time.) Let me know if you are in South Africa as I'd love to meet you.

I would love to have a wolf lick my teeth 😍 I have a husky I caught She had some gravity feeder stuck on her head She was on the run for maybe a month or more... No one was able to catch her I caught her I got the thing off her head.. then the shelter said she was unadoptable.. So I got her out of there and adopted her. She is fearful but she makes me think like she is part wolf. I haven't even gotten a collar on her now or a leash so it's very challenging for me and I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to do it cause she's elusive etc I'm going to show Mai Tai my teeth tomorrow 😀❤

I have an American bulldog and two Jack Russell s and one Yorkshire terrier. The American bulldog loved all the dogs. I just got her spayed and now she hates everyone. She bit both Jack Russell. I’m soo sad. I’m scared and stressed. I need help. She is still young.

Tom, we are so grateful for all your training last weekend! I am still in shock of how far you helped Jax come in such a short period of time. I am able to walk out my front door and not have to stress about him reacting to a person or dog walking by. Sweet, beautiful boy. I think his muscles haven't caught up to his growth. There's a lot of weight to lift there, but he still has puppy muscles. I think I'd provide just a little bit of support under his butt or use a ramp until he gets the boost of testosterone in adolescence to bring him into full tone / adult muscle : weight ratio. Or, if he showed clearly through other actions that he could handle his weight, I'd start him on a shorter height to teach the movement then work up to the truck height in graduated sessions.

What age can you start this? (I have an eight week old)

LMAO try this with my hyper reactive dog, he won't even let you do that because he's already pulling you like a sled, so how are you supposed to do that movement if the leash is stretched all the way? 😂 These RUclips trainers always train easy dogs, but I have never seen them fix a dog like mine.

Hey , So my dog fully understands recall , understands ecollar pressure and the potential of a ecollar. Do you have any tips if my dogs istraction is so high that when offleash he engages with a high istraction and blows through the ecollar and ignores recall. Do I bump up the setting/correction on the ecollar?

This was a great video! I like how you mentioned that socializing isn’t going to the dog park or doggy daycare. It’s walking around town with ppl. When I did that, I noticed she was more scared and cautious (she’s a 1 1/2 year old German Shepherd). I thought the dog park was a good option

I have a Parson Russell who, in his young years, used to redirect his aggression onto my legs when he couldn't get to the other dog. I was lucky he wasn't big enough to actually hurt me bad, but it was nonetheless a really difficult behaviour to deal with. I can't imagine having that problem with a DOBBERMAN! 🤯

Rarely do I find a video where the creator is actually more interested in doing right by the dogs in their care, than just putting on a show. Wonderful, and ACCURATE info is hard to find these days. Thank you for your willingness to share and I look forward to watching a lot more of your videos. Boerboel's are a dream (that is likely to stay a dream) dog, and since they are so formidable it is nice to see a creator walk everyone through the nitty gritty aspects of dog training and not just the surface common sense stuff. I work in a bording kennel and have found your videos really helpful in helping with some of te more reactive dogs we get in, even though its not their fault because of the unfamiliar environment and some of their owners, it has helped destress me and the dogs. We also have three greyhound at home which all have come from the track, on is now quite reactive so i am now looking at using your videos to help. Thank you for helping make sense of the behaviour and showing how to actually train the dogs and ourselves.

Is the prong collar more effective than the pinch collar you recommended, the one you use with your pup? My mastiff is over 70 lbs at 4 months and he is well trained in most circumstances but sometimes he sees another dog and his training goes out the window. Is 4.5 months too young to start e collar training with a pup? He is in dog training 3x a week and i work with him 2-4 hrs a day at home, but my trainer doesn’t do e collar, and he knows his commands but if he gets a trigger, the prong had zero effect and I’m a very small female.

I am just starting training with my new rescue shepherd. She, we, don't know anything. I am struggling with walking on leash, when we are turning. Especially to the left. I cannot get a stay from her beyond two, maybe three feet. I don't have one of those elevated beds, can I use a towel for a visual place to go to? Or does it need to be elevated. Thx.

I may have missed this, but why do you say touch? I thought touch was for the dog to touch your hand. I've only seen the place command for going to this bed. I realize you can call it anything, but I'm curious as to your reasoning. Thank you.

Thanks again, Tom! We had Jax at Phoenix’s dock diving competition this weekend and he did great! Over the past 72 hours he’s been in close proximity to over 40 different dogs and dozens of people and not a single uncontrollable lash out at all! One small instance where he lashed out once but it was triggered by two other dogs going ballistic about 20’ from him but we brought him into heel and he snapped right out of it! A little over a week ago we wouldn’t have even been able to take him, thanks again!!!

Why did these people bring home a Boerbel and not give the dog a job? The breed isn't supposed to be people friendly as they were created to protect family and ranches. Poor dog is probably frustrated beyond measure.
